Japan Energy to start selling oil products made from recycled oil

Japan Energy has announced its launch this month of the commercial production of petroleum products using recycled oil derived through the pyrolysis of waste plastics, a first among Japanese petroleum companies. The move follows the successful conclusion of verification tests using pyrolytic oil generated by a liquefaction method, under which plastics undergo heat treatment to extract liquefied hydrocarbons, as a feedstock for oil products. The tests were carried out under a joint research project with Sapporo Plastic Recycle that was initiated in April 2004. During the four-year verification tests, Japan Energy purified at its Mizushima oil refinery pyrolytic oil received from Sapporo's waste-plastics liquefaction plant to produce oil products such as naphtha.
