Government approves national policy on biofuels; large-scale non-food plantation on wasteland to be encouraged

The Union Cabinet has approved the national policy on biofuels.It also approved setting up of a National Biofuel Coordination Committee to be headed by the Prime Minister and a Biofuel Steering Committee to be headed by the Cabinet Secretary.The draft prepared by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy was considered by a Group of Ministers (GoM) chaired by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and other Planning Commission members before recommending it to the Cabinet.
