Lightly cross-linked polyacrylic acid polymers such as carbomer have been the standard thickening agents for aqueous based personal care formulations,providing high thickening efficiency,high yield values,and pseudoplastic flow characteristics.While providing desired rheological properties,these materials also have some negative product attributes,including a poor skin feel,high tack profile and an incompatibility with other key ingredients such as iron oxides(1).
