Planning Commission rejects GAIL'S proposal for Assam Gas Cracker project

The Planning Commission appears to have rejected Gail India Ltd.(GAIL)'s proposal for a Rs.5285.37-crore gas cracker in Assam,on the grounds that the 220,000-tpa ethylene cracker is sub-optimally sized.The Planning Commission has instead suggested efforts be made to either pool naphtha from all north-eastern refineries or gas from Tripura to set up a cracker of a minimum economic size of 1.0-mtpa of ethylene.
