A dynamic system never requiring troubleshooting is beyond comprehension.In a petroleum refinery,systems are complex and interdependent,and the activities are numerous.So,troubleshooting there is a well-pursued and focused activity.And,it makes it prudent to be familiar with both the art&science of troubleshooting as the anatomy of each problem varies greatly,requiring multidimensional skills.Since people are always an integral part of a system,troubleshooting requires not only technical abilities,but also an awareness of human behavior-both emotional and physical.When systems are in operation,the problem solving process is known as troubleshooting.Prior to commissioning,it is known as de-bugging or even preventive troubleshooting,as it is aimed at anticipating and preventing troubles.In an operating refinery,any situation that adversely affects plant operation,reliability,productivity and safety(including human health and environment)requires troubleshooting.
