Refineries have never been behind in introducing better technologies and all-round innovation,including that in man-agement practices.So has been the case in using reliability engineering.But,over last decade or so,it has been shaped as a profession by having dedicated reliability experts,who spend a great deal of effort in reliability studies of all critical equip-ment and evolve renewed approaches of maintenance,sparing and standardization,and develop/execute short term,as well as long term reliability action plans.
