Methanol prices are depressed worldwide, IHS Chemical says. Demand is seasonally low, supply is ample, and the low price of crude oil has cut into demand for biodiesel and weakened margins in energy applications. Spot prices fell in all regions between November and December 2015, and contracts followed. December spot prices averaged $230/m.t. c&f northeastern Asia, down $23/m.t. or 9% from November, and Methanex posted a January 2016 Asia/Pacific contract price of $275/m.t., down $ 30, or 10%, from the month prior.
