AkzoNobel and Evonik Industries have confirmed plans, announced in 2014, to build and operate a membrane electrolysis facility to produce chlorine and potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution in Germany. Start-up is expected by the end of 2017. The 50-50 joint venture will construct and operate a dedicated plant at AkzoNobel's site at Ibbenburen, Germany. It will have nameplate capacity for about 130,000 m.t./ year of KOH solution and 82,000 m.t./year of chlorine. The plant will strengthen the leading market position of each company. Financial details have not been disclosed.
