Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Co. (Orpic; Muscat) has selected the preferred bidders for its previously announced Liwa plastics complex. The selected companies are a subsidiary of Maire Tecnimont and a joint venture including GS Engineering & Construction (Seoul), Mitsui & Co., and Punj Loyd (Gurgaon, India). The companies will be responsible for three of four Liwa project packages, including a natural gas extraction unit at Fahud, Oman; a 300-kilometer natural gas liquids pipeline between Fahud and Sohar, Oman; and three polymer units at Sohar. The Maire Tecnimont subsidiary will be responsible for the polymer units. Orpic intends to sign the final engineering, procurement, and construction contracts before the end of this year.
