SensientTechnologies, in late February, released a letter to shareholders criticizing the motives of activist hedge fund FrontFour Capital (New York), which proposed a slate of directors to Sensient's board on 19 February. Sensient says it "would strongly oppose FrontFour's four director candidates." The letter goes on to say, "FrontFour is plainly seeking to exploit Sensient's strong financial position and industry-leading businesses for short-term gains that are not in the long-term interests of Sensient's shareholders and other stakeholders." It also notes that FrontFour did not approach Sensient management with its concerns about the company before going public with them.
