Bayer CropScience says it will build a world-scale glufosinate-ammonium herbicide production plant near Mobile, AL, to help meet growing demand for glyphosate alternatives. The long-term, near-exclusive use of glyphosate—the herbicide Monsanto's ubiquitous Roundup Ready trait confers resistance to—has reportedly given rise to increasing incidences of glyphosate-resistant weeds.
