Shanghai Chemical Park, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Plan to Create Giant Petchems Zone

Shanghai Chemical industry Park (SCIP; Caojing, China) and Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical (SPG; Jinsriari, China) are working on a long-term plan to create a massive petrochemical zone that is expected to overtake Jurong, in Singapore, in terms of size and the number of plants, CW has learned. Zhang Chun, v.p. at SCIP, outlined the companies' ambitions in an exclusive interview with CW. "By 2020, SCIP and SPC will combine into one petrochemical zone with roads, pipelines, and other infrastructure, so we can operate as one," Zhang says. SPC, which is listed on the stock exchange, will continue to function as a separate legal entity.
