Cradle-to-Cradle Recycling Takes Off As an Alternative Route to Competitiveness

Manufacturers of finished products containing synthetic chemicals are designing those items increasingly with a view to the products being fully recycled from "cradle-to-cradle," according to speakers at a workshop held last week by culture and leadership organization EnlightenNext (London).The event was attended by representatives of leading chemical producers and consumers including ICI and Unilever.A cradle-to-cradle approach means chemical firms effectively "leasing" out chemical products,including polymers,to consuming manufacturers such as Nike,and taking the products back for recycling at the end of their useful life.
