Energy, Resources ＆ environment for the 21st century in jordan

In the past two decades Jordan's standard of living has been stagnating in terms of GNP per capita and energy consumption per capita. Securing a reliable supply of water in terms of quantity and quality is one of the most important challenges facing Jordan. In the political context of the Peace Process, regional cooperation is required to bring about adequate solutions to these problems. Nevertheless, Jordan has wide scope in terms of its national efforts to positively contribute to this solution. In examining examples from the newly industrialized countries, the paper demonstrates that economic prosperity could best be brought about by rapid industrialization in the manufacturing sector. The experience of other nations shows that reduction of high rates of natural population growth, improved standards of living, improved water supply in quality and quantity, as well as better protection of the environment go hand in hand.
