A refined procedure for calculating a permanent magnet is proposed The magnet is modeled by an equivalent circuit with distributed parameters, which offers the best approximation when describing the physical phenomena in permanent magnets. The parameters of the equivalent circuit for a cylindrical permanent magnet are calculated taking into account the difference of magnetic potentials between the magnet poles. Such a procedure enables one to obtain a closed-type relationship for the ratio between the sizes of a cylindrical magnet (the length-to-diameter ratio) at which the ratio of the leakage flux to the useful flux through the magnet body is minimized This information is important and useful when designing permanent magnets.
