Should We Prescribe Steroids for Sore Throats?

I have been a latecomer to a primary care exercise: the addition of cortico-steroids to treatment regimens for sore throats. Many of my colleagues have sworn by the efficacy of steroids in this common, but uncomfortable situation. I have wondered as well about safety. A recent "Top Paper" (from the "ACP Journal Club") forced me to investigate the question further.
