Use of carbon, contained in an iron-carbon alloy, in particular, cast iron, as a deoxodizer in ilmenite-type welding electrodes is proposed. A procedure for calculation of an equilibrium content of carbon and manganese in the deposited metal is developed, that allows determination of the maximal admissible amount of carbon, added through the cast iron powder in electrode coatings at different proportions of ilmenite, FeMn and [Mn].
