Comparison of business models for trade and finance EDI

摘要

This paper discusses analyzing trade and finance EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) business models, through the comparison among bolero.net and TradeCard. Marketing strategy and issues for widespread of trade and financial EDI, its effective solution and issues after proliferation of bolero.net and/or TradeCard services are discussed from the aspect of IT (Information Technology), such as comparing system and network architecture and security, and the aspect of legal framework on Electronic Commerce. Bolero.net has been trying to process trade documents electronically without changing existing business flow of document handling as far as possible, while TradeCard proposes new business flow by applying BPR (Business Process Reengineering). The system infrastructure of bolero.net and TradeCard is based on PKI (Public Key Infrastructure), which facilitates authentication of participant companies among trade and finance EDI community and secure communication on the Internet. Success factor of these business models is how to involve small to medium-sized importing/exporting companies. At present TradeCard gets an advantage, but it does not cover all trade patterns, therefore it coexists with Bolero in the near future.
