Lung cancer is the most cause of cancer death in Japan. Therefore, It has a hope for lung cancer mass screening using CT image to reduce the death rate. The mass screening compares an old image with a new image of the same patient, and the lung cancer earlier stage is diagnosed by retrospect observation. The problem of this screening is reading a lot of images and preparing for comparative reading. To overcome this problem, we have developed an algorithm of slice matching for comparative reading for lung cancer mass screening using three-dimensional CT image. This algorithm investigates the temporal change of chest internal-organs by visual observation, and it compares the slice-matching using blood vessel information to the slice-matching using chest internal-organs information. The slice-matching algorithm is built from these results.
