摘要

As a low-cost and uncooled light source for WDM networks, we developed a coaxial fiber-Bragg-grating external-cavity semiconductor Laser (FGL). By using a fiber-Bragg-grating as an external reflector, high wavelength stabilities of 11.7 pm/K and 1.3 pm/mA were realized with ambient temperature and current even under uncooled condition. In addition, good transmissions up to a modulation speed of 1.25 Gbps were achieved. We then applied the FGLs to an 8-channel wavelength multiplexing experiment with 1.6 nm channel spacing under uncooled condition. Good multiplexing characteristic was maintained in the ambient temperature range from -30 to 70℃, and high wavelength stabilities around 12 pm/K were obtained for all channels. Based on theses results, we demonstrated that this coaxial FGL module is a promising light source for future low-cost WDM/LAN access networks.
