Development of a computer-aided sketch system with application of our CAD techniques

With the rapid development of computer technology and its application to medical fields, it is significantly required to computerize all medical information including medical images. In this work, we propose a new computer-aided sketch(CAS) system, which could be considered as an aid for radiologists to prepare their sketch by applying the techniques developed for our computer-aided diagnosis schemes in mammography. Because the sketches provided by the CAS system can be saved as digital format, it is possible to set up an electronic medical record system more efficiently than conventional ways to draw sketches on paper sheets by hands. An evaluation of the CAS system performance was introduced. By comparing the sketches drawn by an experienced radiologist with those produced by the CAS system, a subjective evaluation was performed. An initial result by using 430 digitized images(112 cases) indicated that radiologists were mostly satisfied with the defined regions illustrated by our CAS system.
