摘要

The only lizard to live in Connecticut straggles to survive on the forested ridges, and this struggle isn't easy to understand. The five-lined skink lives in greater numbers in the south, but in Connecticut it is on the list of Threatened Species. Whythey have such trouble probably stems from their need for south-facing ridges where trees don't grow too large. Skinks are not salamanders - not those tiny orange creatures that spend part of their life in water. No, they are lizards. They are difficult to spot and almost impossible to catch because they move so fast, said Julie Victoria, a wildlife biologist with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection.
