Automated test of spoken English over telephone -pilot study with school of law freshmen at Waseda university

PhonePass SET-10 is a test of spoken English administered over telephone. With an automated speech recognition engine developed with non-native and native speaker samples, the system measures examinees' speaking and listening ability of English based on responses to a ten-minute interaction with the system. In this paper, we will discuss results obtained from Japanese learners of English, mainly freshmen of Waseda University School of Law.
