Thirty-seven volunteers (18%) exhibited one or more positive patch-test reactions. This was less than those with eczema (145/327, 43%), which was statistically significant. (P < 0.0001, x2 test). Patch test results are shown in Table 1. In the volunteer arm, reactions to nickel were commonest (8.8%), followed by cobalt chloride (4.9%), potassium dichromate (2.4%), and fragrance mix (2.4%).
