A formula is proposed to calculate the wear of cylinder liners of various internal combustion engines obtained by formulating conditional linear equations based on the simplified Gaussian algorithm and reduced to normal equations. The new formula enables to predict wear with the accuracy sufficient for practical purposes. The wear of cylinder liners is determined as a function of the friction coefficient, generalized criteria of contact temperature augmentation, Peclet numbers, and volumetric temperature incrementation. A method has been developed to obtain formulas for calculating wear of basic parts of various engines and machines.
