Surface processes during cutting of steels with coolant lubricants containing complexes of metals

The problem is discussed of using coolant lubricants (based on aqueous solutions of Versene complexes of metals, e.g., Cu, Cr, Mo) in the processes of cutting of steels, specifically finishing. When these fluids attend cutting, the components on the exposed steel surface react with the solutions of metallic complexes producing a copper coating on the workpiece surface. The coating may serve as a substrate layer for performing another process, such as electrolytic chrome plating, for protection against corrosion or as an ornamental layer, it also prevents carbonization during quenching.
