This paper describes the noise characteristics of twisted pair cables. Four types of 50cm long cables were examined: (1) a cable without any shield (Core); (2) a cable with a grounded Al ribbon shield (Alg); (3) a cable with a grounded Al and a floating Co-amorphous ribbon shields (AlgAm 1); (4) a cable with a grounded Al and a grounded Co-amorphous ribbon shields (AlgAmg 1). The noise emission and induced voltage were decreased by a grounded Al and a grounded Co-amorphous ribbon shields. The transmission loss of Core was higher than that of AlgAm 1 and AlgAmg1, which was almost equal to that of Alg. Consequently, AlgAmg 1 cable structure was confirmed to be the most promising candidate for the future digital communication and data processing systems.
