Applications for Thermotherapy with Metallic Stent Depend on External Excitation

Stents are one method of treatment for stenosis of lumens organ from various causes. The cylindrical metallic stents are composed of alloy wire. After stents are implanted, however, the stenosis may recur due to a tumor or abscess again. It is particularly difficult to remove tumors or abscesses of the bile duct by surgical repair, because the duct is in a deep portion of the abdomen. We purpose noninvasive reduction of such a tumor or abscess by thermotherapy with excited metallic stents. Currently, produced stents are not made to allow for heating of stents, so we identified the feasibility of heating stents and examined the possibility of thermotherapy.
