Researchers at Abu Dhabi's 'future' energy Masdar Institute claim to have found a way to make lithium-ion batteries 'fireproof and have filed a US patent. Lithium batteries were blamed for the on-board fire that suffocated the pilots of UPS Flight 6, which crashed in the desert outside Dubai on Septembers, 2010.
