The Development of PDA-based Signal Analyzing Recorder and PC-based Predictive Maintenance System for Industrial Facilities

A combination of a PDA-based recorder (Palmerlog) and a PC-based predictive maintenance system (PdM) were developed to detect deterioration or potential malfunctions of industrial facilities and to avoid abnormal functioning or unexpected shutdowns of the production line. Palmerlog is a multi-function signal-analyzing recorder. It has a 4 channel simultaneous data acquisition module that is capable of sampling signals from -25V to 25V at 192kHz with 24-bit resolution. Determination factors such as rms, peak, peak-to-peak and crest are automatically calculated. The raw data and measurement configuration were stored in Palmerlog that can be uploaded to PC for further analysis by PdM. PdM is not only an advanced signal analyzing tool but also a predictive maintenance system for industrial facilities diagnosis. This system provides three main functions: measurement scheduling, signal analyzing, and facilities diagnosis. With the functions supplied by Palmerlog and PdM it can conduct various diagnoses.
