A NOVEL PHYTOTOXIC PHENOLIC COMPOUND FROM Phoma herbarum FGCC#54 WITH HERBICIDAL POTENTIAL

摘要

Phoma is a phytopathogenic fungus known to produce an array of bioactive extracellular toxic compounds. The bioactive compound was isolated by solvent extraction of the cell-free culture filtrate of Phoma followed by chromatographic purification. The structure of the compound was establish to be 1-hydroxy-4(3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)pentan-3-one on the basis of spectroscopic studies. The isolated compound showed positive results for its herbicidal potential against test weeds.
