摘要

As a part of developmental work of small-sized load cell utilizing fiber-optic sensor, studies were conducted on the performance of the fiber-optic sensor and applicability of clamping force gauge for bolts as a load cell. The results served fabrication of a prototype of the small-sized load cell. The present work has demonstrated that (1) the fiber-optic sensor presents no problem in linearity or reproducibility characteristics; (2) the bolt with clamping force gauge can be used as a load cell; and (3) the calibration of a prototype small-sized load cell consisting of a fiber-optic sensor embedded in a M 3 set screw showed an excellent linearity, thus endorsing its performance as a load cell.
