In Japan, around 25 thousands pieces of accurate hardness atandard blocks are produced annually in accordance with ISO and JIS standard. The concept of hardness standard and uncertainty of hardness and the outline of manufacturing process, standardization procedure of blocks, and indirect verification method using blocks are described. Also the standard blocks for nano-indentation hardness made of single crystal metal in the development stage are introduced.
