In the process of developing new materials, sometimes it is difficult to obtain JIS specimens for conducting the mechanical test because the samples have rather small size. Thus, it is required to perform the mechanical test with some specially designed specimens, which has smaller dimension than JIS regulation. Therefore, the grip jig that the specimen is fixed by shoulder support and a special small size specimen corresponded to this method are developed in this study. The validity of the experimental result is also discussed. The special small dimension, JIS 13 B and the JIS 13 B proportionally reduced specimens were prepared with pure titanium plate and the tensile test was carried out. The value of the tensile strength can be obtained equal to that of the JIS specimen. It is preferable to set the original gauge length based on the JIS proportional specimen when the elongation is measured. However, it is better to assume a relatively comparative evaluation with the specimen of the same dimension. It can be seen that the grip jig of the shoulder support type is an effective method to the evaluation of the mechanical property for a small specimen, and cause the process of the test to be very easy.
