Katronic Technologies has provided aircraft manufacturer Airbus UK with an ultrasonic flowmeter for use in one of its landing gear test-rigs. This brief case study looks at the way in which the flowmeter is being used and how Airbus has benefited from using the technology. The problem faced by Airbus UK, which is based at Filton, Bristol, was to find a high performance flowmeter capable of meeting the demands of its application while being easily installed on pipework in close proximity to existing instrumentation. In order to be suitable, the flowmeter had to be capable of measuring flow in pipework ranging from 9.5 mm to 38 mm in diameter, and in materials including steel, aluminium and titanium.
