Nanotechnology is one of the rapid growing research fields around the world. The invention of the scanning tunneling microscope (STM) in 1981 by Gerd Binnig and Heinrich Rohrer induced a sparked growth of nanoscale research. It provided the first-time ever opportunity to visualize the individual atoms and bonds. STM is one of the major tools for nanoscale research.
