Precast pavement systems make in-roads with federal, state agencies

From the Federal Highway Administration ... Use of precast concrete pavement systems (PCPS) for repair and rehabilitation of both Portland cement concrete and asphalt pavements is becoming more widespread as states increasingly parlay PCPS benefits of improved quality, accelerated project schedules, and reduced traffic delays. Those advantages were highlighted during a two-day showcase--sponsored by the FHWA's Highways for LIFE (HfL) program-featuring a Virginia Department of Transportation PCPS installation for a $5 million, Interstate 66 project in Fairfax County. A total of 85 showcase attendees representing 16 states, as well as federal and city agencies, universities, and contractors, received a firsthand view of the project's nighttime construction operations.
