In January 2010, the Aurora Public Library (APL) in Colorado suffered severe budget cuts. Its materials budget was reduced from $1.2 million annually to $190,000. The staffing budget was also cut:50% of employees were laid off, and four locations were closed. As a colleague of mine at a neighboring library system put it, "APL practically imploded!"
