Building Digital Libraries

I've written frequently about the new spirit of collaboration and how it is rewriting the rules of collection development. Given the pace of change, it is worth revisiting this topic every few years. Not long ago, the conversation was about how to apply classification schemes and ontologies to digital collections. Since then, the single biggest shift has been a growing realization that to oversee and preserve collections, we need to forge partnerships with many other stakeholders. As a community-building exercise, this can only be good. But with respect to logistics and workflows, collaborative collection development influences how we work.
