A free design calculator is offered as an accessory tool for the company's Lenton Steel Fortress punching-shear reinforcement product. Available on CD-ROM, the calculator analyzes loads and moments as they relate to punching shear on a two-way flat slab. When the user inputs dimensions, loads, moments, eccentricities and presence of post-tensioning, the calculator determines if punching-shear reinforcement is necessary. On the basis of ACI318-99, ACI318-05 and ACI421 codes, it determines the amount of shear reinforcement needed and the proper distribution of Lenton Steel Fortress to satisfy the requirements. Printable detailed drawings of the column head show the orientation and spacing of shear reinforcement around the column. Lenton Steel Fortress is a shear-reinforcement system that provides a simple, economical solution to the problem of brittle punching shear, according to the manufacturer. A continuous, flat steel strip with holes punched along its center, the product features a turret configuration specifically tailored to each project's design requirements. It is easily tied to the top layer of the main reinforcing bar and meets or exceeds ASTM A505-87 with a minimum yield strength of 72,500 psi (500 MPa) and a minimum elongation of 11 percent.
