摘要

The refractive index of slags is an important physical property, which is used to derive the radiation conductivity and the electronic polarisability of oxygen as a measure of the basicity. The prediction equation for refractive indices from chemical compositions and temperature would be useful since slags used in practice have a variety of chemical compositions; however, there is no prediction equation available for silicate melts at high temperatures due to the paucity of relevant refractive index data. Thus, the aim of the present work is to measure the refractive index of alkali and alkaline earth silicate melts as a function of chemical compositions and temperature to establish its prediction equation based upon local structure models of the melts.
