Researchers at SINTEF have been developing oil pipelines that can provide real-time condition monitoring reports by means of transmitting data to shore. This has been achieved in collaboration with industrial partners Bredero Shaw, Force Technology, Siemens Subsea and ebm-papst. Last autumn, 200 m of pipeline were laid in Orkanger harbour to find out whether the electronics would survive being submerged and the sensors succeed in transmitting data onshore. "The tests were successful," said SINTEF Project Manager Ole Oystein Knudsen.
