In this paper, the carrier flotation of ultrafine cassiterite particle (-5 #mu#m) was investigated using coarse cassiterite, and the other kinds of coarse minerals, such as cerussite, galena and quartz as carrier in a sodium oleate collector system. The effect of various main factors on carrier flotation with different kinds of carrier was examined. It was found that the recovery of ultrafine cassiterite using different kinds of carrier in carrier flotation is ranked in order of sequence: cerussite > galena> cassiterite> quartz. The recovery of ultrafine cassiterite increased significantly from 48percent of conventional flotation to 73percent (with cassiterite as carrier) and 94percent (with cerussite as carrier). The recovery was increased further to 95 approx 97percent in carrier flotation by addition of Pb~(2+) ion. Similar results were observed in the separation of the artificially mixed minerals of ultrafine cassiterite and quartz.
