A method for collection and determination oforganophosphorous compounds in ambient air using solid phaseextraction disk (Empore~(TM) C18, 47mm), followed by largevolume injection-GC/MS is described.Air was passed through the membrane disk at a flow rate of 101/min for 100 min with a diaphragm pump. The collectedorganophosphorous were eluted with 4 ml of acetone, anddetermined by GC/MS with new developed large volumeinjection (A 100 #mu#1 of sample was injection). Recoveries of9 organophosphorous compounds (Tributyl phosphate; TBP, Tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate; TCEP; Triphenyl phosphate; TPP,Tricresyl phosphate; TCP, Diazinon, Fenitrothion; MEP,Fenthion; MPP, Chlorpyrifos, Pyridaphenthion) from themembrane disk were 90-100 percent, respectively. Thebreakthrough of those compounds from the membrane disk didnot occur, when 1 m~3 of the air was passed at a flow rate of 101/min. This new large volume injection was found to be anexcellent technique for determining a low level concentration ofhigh boiling point compounds. In this method, detection limitsfor those compounds ranged from 0.04 to 0.32 ng/m~3.
