Airbus, Pratt & Whitney jointly flight-test Geared Turbofan

Engineers from Europe's Airbus and US-based Pratt & Whitney say they are preparing an aircraft to flight-test Pratt & Whitney's Geared Turbofan engine. It is scheduled to begin flight testing during the fourth quarter of 2008 in Toulouse, France. The aerospace companies will partner on flight testing a technology demonstrator of the Geared Turbofan engine, Pratt & Whitney's next-generation product that targets double-digit improvements in fuel burn, environmental emissions, engine noise and operating costs.
