Purdue researchers create wireless sensors to monitor bearings in jet engines

Scientists in the USA are developing an early-warning, wireless telemeter for bearings that operate under harsh conditions, such as those found inside jet engines. According to a research paper that details the technology, the telemeter detects imminent temperature-induced failure of the bearing before conventional thermocouple sensors respond to conditional changes, leaving ample time for appropriate action to be taken to avoid complete failure.
