EA Technology of Capenhurst, Chester, UK, reports that it is experiencing a major increase in demand for its CableFritter product, which uses the β frit welding principle to repair degraded mechanical cable joints between sub-stations and consumer premises. Degraded cable joints are a prime cause of 'flickering lights'. EA Technology Products Director Neil Davies said: "Deteriorating, mechanical low-voltage cable joints are a headache for operators because there are often dozens of connections to check and they can be difficult to pinpoint without extensive excavations. The cost and time involved in fixing problems like this by trial and error can be excessive."
