Leg injuries are the most common injuries in nonfatal pedestrian accidents. Therefore, the objective of this research is to develop injury reference values for evaluating pedestrian leg injury risk by means of the legform impactor with a rigid leg and thigh developed by the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). Lower extremity responses related to the risk of pedestrian knee and lower leg injuries induced by bumper contact in a real-world pedestrian accident, such as knee angle and lower leg acceleration, were reconstructed using this legform impactor. Injury reference values for the TRL legform impactor for estimating the risk of collateral ligament injury and tibia fracture were proposed from these responses by means oft-test and the maximum likelihood method of logistic regression.
