One of the issues of Metal Hydride tanks is the charging time. To shorten the charging time, the heat exchange performance of MH tanks has to be improved. In this study, certain kinds of small size MH tanks (with an effective storage capacity of 1.25 Nm{sup}3.) were experimentally manufactured. And the influence of MH tank structure on charging characteristics, such as hydrogen flow rate and change of MH temperature, was measured. The heat transfer simulation of MH tanks was also carried out. As a result, the design concept was derived to charge 80% of effective storage capacity of full size MH tanks (with an effective storage capacity of about 30 Nm{sup}3.) within 10 minutes.
