Development of JARI Child and Adult Head-form Impactors for Pedestrian Subsystem Tests

To reduce the severity of head injuries in car-pedestrian accidents, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Harmonized Research Activities (IHRA) have proposed subsystem tests in which child and adult head-form impactors are impacted upon a car bonnet top. The ISO and IHRA designated the mass of the child head-form impactor as 3.5 kg, and that of an adult as 4.5 kg. We developed the new child and adult head-form impactors according to the requirements because such impactors have not been developed so far. The present study reports the technical specifications and biofidelity of the newly developed head-form impactors.
